Microsoft office 2007

I have been using Microsoft office 2007 for ages and really like it. I especially love using Outlook for emails.
I now have to get an updated version (for a new computer)and was wondering which one is the most similar to 2007. Any ideas? Also is it possible to buy and share between a desktop pc and a laptop?

I am running Office 2010 and although a little different to 2007 I find it quite alright.

As for your second question it depends what package you buy, if you buy a box copy you can install it on up to 3 PC's I believe their is a cheaper version where you just get the single key for use on one machine.

2010 is the package 2007 should have been - all the glitches fixed and smooth as a baby's bum. Think of 2007 as Vista - 2010 is Win7.

2013 is Windows 8 - a step backwards for most and entirely unnecessary unless you're on a tablet.

By the way, someone will be along in a moment to tell you how wonderful LibreOffice is.

    It isn't.

If you're used to the ribbon interface, it's like going back to a 1973 Escort after driving the latest models for years.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

  • Shouldn't it be 2013 now?

Why not just reinstall Office 2007 on your new PC if you are happy with it?
Just add the compatabiiity pack to open .docx and .xlsx fies.

Make sense to me! and Office 2007 is .docx, .xlsx by default.

If you bought a retail version of Office (ie a CD in a plastic box that wasn't supplied already pre-installed by the manufacturer such as Dell) then you can transfer the software to a new PC assuming you have the product key certificate of authenticity (COA) which is the code you need to enter when installing the software.

Did you buy Office seperately from your PC?

A quick Google suggests that if you downloaded Office (ie no CD was purchased, only a licence) then you can't transfer the software LINK - but I'm happy to be corrected. Note that what works and what is keeping in line with Microsoft's licencing are two different things.

Legally speaking, its a Maybe. It depends on what version you bought. The Home and Student version came in 1 PC or 3 PC packs, OEM copies generally cannot be moved from PC to PC , whereas full retail ones can, so it's not a simple yes or no.

You can't usually "share a licence" in most cases but some licence versions allow you put Office on a Desktop and laptop, provided they are both your main computer, so you can't say put it on two separate kids PC's, it has to be where the main user is the same person.

Practically speaking Microsoft probably will never know of you put it on multiple PC;'s as long as it activates OK, however read the licence terms on the product you have.

Where did your copy of Office come from, and how much did you pay for it, that may give an idea of what version it was.

It is installed on my laptop from work, it was setup by head office, so unfortunately i can't answer those questions.
Can anyone tell me if i can actually by it again to install on my new computers, or do i have to buy a later version?

If the licence key on your old machine is suitable you could try to download from microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/office/downloads/

This process asks for the licence key at the start so it is worth a try

However I'm not sure if the necessary software to extract the licence key on the old pc would be frowned on on this site.

Has your workplace not retained the key?
