Politicians who claim an ipad on expenses days before pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice and standing down. Now that IS a swear word.

I agree but that's not always for the immigration officer to decide.
One of the things the NHS scandal teaches us is that it's very dangerous to put large amounts of power in the hands of state employees.0 -

No idea.
I'm not sure that the Aussie migration system for refugees is one to be emulated. We aren't very nice to them.0 -
To change the benefits system for EU immigrants it needs to be changed for UK resident citizens.
It's not that hard - for example just ensuring that children actually are in the country with their working parent before that parent can claim child benefit.
Unfortunately the UK government (of all distinctions) is absolutely useless in interpreting EU directives or ensuring only residents benefit from the welfare state.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Don't know sounds ideal.;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Cameron & Osborne have plenty of form for saying lots & doing little. "Mr Cameron has said that he wants to reform the system" sounds awfully like a mild sop to people worried about immigration with nothing much necessarily behind it. We'll see.0

Hmm, I still have my doubts.
Surely unfettered access to justice is one of the things that keeps a democracy democratic, no? Surely someone who migrates to a country legally and is then deported illegally should have some right of appeal. There shouldn't be endless and taxpayer funded appeals I agree.
I guess it depends on the definition.
My position on this pretty much mirrors yours Gen, agree with all the rest but not the position on justice. However I have heard that lately Legal Aid has been tightened for a lot of reasons - nothing to do with immigrants. If this is part of the whole cutting of legal aid issue I'd have less problem with it. I don't think the high profile Abu Qatada case helps either. I can't really rationalise my reasoning here - I think legal aid access is right but not in cases like that:o.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
