Job search panic

Firstly I hope this will make sense, a bit about my situation I am currently in a temp job which is probably ending soon, it is ok as a temp measure but I have no intention of applying for it permanently. So I need to get looking for something else- the problem is I have no idea what, I have basically been temping for years so have loads of experience but it is all pretty basic, sometimes I feel I am being too fussy I know few people are in the "perfect" job. Not really sure what advice I am after maybe just some reassurance that I am not alone in feeling that sometimes looking for a job is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Is there any chance you can get the job permenantly after the temp contract ends?

No it will be advertised and I do not want to apply, there are a number of reasons for this. I def want a new job I am not happy in my current one have been looking for a few weeks but only casually need to start upping my game.

Knowning how bad it is not to have a job if I was you Id apply for the job even though you do not want to stay but if they took you on full time perm at least you have a job and can still look for another. Harder to get a job when you do not have one I can tell you!!

True my only worry is how bad it would look quitting a perm job a month or so in. I really do not want this long term but I agree with what you say probably will be worth applying if I do not have anything else.
Sorry I sound so ungrateful, I know it is sh*t being unemployed.

You just say you were looking anyway as you were not 100% sure that you would be made perm (you are entitled to look) and this new role (When you get one) has come about and you are very thankful for the opportunity to have worked for them but you are off.

No one on the other side of the table would think how bad they look (the employer) if they ditched you no matter how long you had been there.

Id apply for the job and take it from there as you do not want to be out of a job.

Ah well the decision may be out of my hands as have just been told people at risk get earlier chance to apply.

Ah sorry...well just says those at risk- I am only temping not really sure its a big multi site place. I asked and can still apply though (but I would guess the already perm/FTC would have better chance) Turns out it is only going to be an FTC too which actually might encourage me to apply more than if it was proper perm (though is anything now?), still I definitely need to start thinking longer term I am sick of being bored at work I want more of a challenge just not sure what.

Fixed term? There are lots of jobs out there that are NOT fixed term.

Bumping my own thread to see if anyone has any advice, I decided to not apply for the temp job I am doing (I don't wish to explain why) I just feel I have no direction all I have done for the last few years is office based temping - yes some longer term contracts (not just short term) but it just means I have such a mixed bag of experience I hardly know where to start when looking for a new job. :(
