Focus gear shift.

The gear change lever on my 2001 Focus has went all sloopy.
Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

What do you mean by sloppy?

It dosn't move naturally into the next gear as it used to when changing up.
There is no resistance in the movement liked it used to feel.
I think there may be a spring or something broken.

funny you should say that, my stick doesnt sit nicely anymore on my 2001 focus, seems as though the spring has gone in it somewhere. Have had some interesting gear changes.

Right it sounds exactly what I thought you would say and I have had the same problem myself.

I suggest you have a read here and decide if you wish to fix it yourself or put it into your nearest garage

went to Fords in Marlow, and i asked for a spring and he asked me if it was a focus. i said yes and without looking he typed ina part number, that is how common the problem is.

Without the guide referred to above i managed to replace it in about 40 mins, gears are nice n tight. bigs thanks too all

common fault on focus change the linkage for 20 odd quid a five minute my friendly retail dealer tells me (he does it himself without bothering the workshop)
