WRITE to BT giving a full explanation of your understanding of what's happened, including the dates you telephoned them and what you said and what they said during the calls, and send it by Special Delivery.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • Did you and DH make seperate phone calls to BT? If that is the case, try find the phone record if you have any and show them you spoke to them twice. Hope you get it sorted.

    Start by contacting CIFAS.

They can put a marker on OH's record which means that additional identify checks are required to set up accounts to prevent fraud.

Ask them what additional measures he can take ( and I would suggest that cancelling the accounts would be a good start) like adding notes to his records withg the credit reference agencies indicating that these accounts were set up fraudulently by his ex-partner.

he needs to get this sorted as she is wrecking his credit rating.

this is fraud so phone the police im sure she will pay up then but you shuld phone the police its identiy theft

The police won't be interested as she hasn't defrauded the Op, she has defrauded BT.

After I moved a the people who moved into my home ordered loads from a catalogue they opened in my name. The first I knew about it was a year later when the debt collectors found me.

I asked them to check the electoral roles, and I sent them a copy of my council tax bill, which proofed I was not at the address when the order was made.

I never heard from them again.

    ^^This. A thousand times this ^^.

I've even put the key word in bold, as well as errata's capitals.

I despair every time I see a poster talking about a potentially serious situation - potential fraud, possible identity theft, for example - and listing all of the telephone calls they have made to try to resolve it...

Put it in writing. Keep copies of your letters, and the other parties' replies. Send letters by some form of recorded/signed-for delivery.

You need a decent audit trail. Scrambling around for phone records, months down the line, is not a decent audit trail.

    ^^^^ This.

And consider CIFAS registration. http://www.cifas.org.uk/pr It seems to me that the ex is getting into a state where she is likely to default on contracts if she has not already. Get him to check his credit records too in case this has been going on for a while.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • Had you reported her for the sky episode she would not have been able to do the same to BT. Children or not this is fraud and if you again sort this out on the QT it will be a virgin account next :T

And your husbands ex get him to sort it out!

If it's fraud then Experian's Victims of Fraud team would be able to look at this and would work to 1) remove any fraudulent information from your husband's report and 2) advise him on adding security features to make sure this doesn't happen again. Details in this Q&A.

  • Yes - get your full credit file in case anything else is lurking about.

But in terms f BT, it should be up to BT to prove that he took out that in his name, which will be impossible seeing as he didn't take it out.

So as others say, write to BT explaining the situation, refuse to pay anything, and stick to your guns!
