Credit card balance transfer problem

I transferred balance on Barclaycard acc around 2008/2009 to my Lloyds TSB card and thought it was finshed with.
On checking my experian status recently found a listing for a CCJ with Northampon CC for £3300. Contacted the court for explanation as at this point did not know what this was. Letter this morning confirmed Barlaycard claimed for balance outstanding through CL Finance to recover the debt. Solicitors Howard Cohen.
I phoned the court to explain the bal was transferred and was told to fill in form N244 and pay £80 to get this amended. I am not in a position to pay £80 through no fault of my own and have phoned my bank for copies of Cr card statements for that period so I can prove I transferred the debt. I do not have the barclaycard acc number now. What shall I do now.. ?? Do I write to the finance co or solicitors? Not sure I'd get anywhere. Any advice much appreciated. I am recovering from the sudden death of my husband and do not need this now on top of everything else. Thank you.

  • Lloyds TSB should have a record of the BT,they should be able to give you a transaction reference for it.The money is prob sitting in a Barclays suspense account,it needs to be tracked down.
I have a deep burning indifference
  • Thanks so much. Will try ringing them again now and ask for reference no then I can contact BCard.
    Much appreciated. :j

Did you not continue to get statements from barclaycard showing the balance still outstanding and the transfer payment missing?

Did you not get letters chasing the debt and a default notice? Then letters from a debt collector? then a court order? then a copy of the judgement?

Hopefully barclays will be able to track down the payment and agree that you don't owe the debt. But you will then still need to go down the set aside route to remove it from your credit file?
In terms of the fee - people on certain benefits and on very low incomes can apply not to have to pay court fee, you may want to see if that would apply to you.

  • No, I've heard absolutely nothing since I did the transfer. I have moved house but had post re directed.
That's why it all seems weird !
Do you think Barclaycard will be able to assist me if I ring but no account number ?
And I'm almost certain this has not been on my credit report in past few years.. Seems recent ?
    Very odd.

Have you got a copy of the judgement now? (you can get from the court)

Does the numbers stack up as far as you can tell - is it the right sort of balance, right sort of date - what is the date of the CCJ? I.e is it actually your debt at all, not someone else with the same name and their own upaid barclaycard, that has been incorrectly linked to your credit file?

  • Well the date seems about right ..2008 ! And the amount about right as far as i can recall, so yes i think its mine. I've been on to barclaycard now but they saying I've been referred to a recovery dept and they closed so i got to ring again tomorrow.
Also rang Lloyds again tonight re BT reference no. I've been advised to write about this which I've just done and will post tomorrow. God knows how long this will take !
    I just can't fathom what's going on !
    Grateful for all help though.

Presumably there's also a default on your credit report from the card provider? If so, you could query this via Experian. If the provider agrees it made a mistake then it should be able to remove the default and cancel the CCJ for you.

If you don't owe the money you can ask the court to set aside the judgement using form N244. If the court agrees to set the judgement aside it will be heard again and you will get the chance to put your case.
  • Many thanks to everyone. In reply to James, No I do not have a separate report of default to card provider Barclaycard
I am now awaiting info from my bank re the transfer until I can get any further
