I had one for 5 years Coraline.I only sold it because I was skint one year and needed the capital back. Bought it resale and sold it back on again for same money. If I had a spare few grand Id buy back in again.
I love the concept. Gold crown accom is normally of a much better standard than typical package holiday hotels or apartments.
Yes but is the maintenance fee plus the fee you have to pay to swap to a different location really worth it? I knew someone with this sort of scheme and it worked out at close to £100 per night (maintenance & swap fee), you can get pretty luxurious accomodation for £100 per night in most places, and without being tied to having to use it every year or waste the fee, or being tied to a particular booking agent where you have to book ages in advance or you've got no chance of getting where you want. That's not to mention the capital tied up in buying the thing in the first place!
However, a lot of these point systems/ clubs such as Diamond, CLC, Marriott etc, they are continually trying to upsell.
It is never value for money to buy direct or to upgrade.

Typically Marriott want over 30k for Platinum weeks. Resale can be had for around 5 or 6K
That's the real scandal - selling something for 5 times it's market value. I guess it's done the usual way of asking mugs to a presentation and telling them they have to make a decision there and then, they can't go away and think about it. Like it's not going to be available the next day or next week!!

Why anyone would make such a massive purchase of something they've only just seen and not had a chance to research, shop around and compare is beyond me.

Its no different from buying a car. New 20k second hand 5k.

    Re maintainance fees.
Marriott Marbella Beach Club would cost you about 2.5K/3K per week for a 3 bedroom unit through Marriott.com in the high season. Members get that for about £1K PA per week maintanance.

If its understood and used properly, timeshare/ points/ vacation ownership can be very viable for high end holidays

:rotfl:It's completely different! Cars depreciate with age because an older car will need far more spending on it to keep it on the road, and won't last as long.

Property doesn't depreciate in the same way. You don't get people buying a new house and then selling it for a quarter of the price a few years later! Unless there's been a massive property crash!

Does that include the cost of swapping to somewhere else if you don't fancy going to Marbella every year?

Possibly - but I guess you'd have to be pretty sure of your future holiday requirements for years or decades ahead to make it worthwhile...

I thought it was life without parole unless you manage to get someone else to do your sentence?
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
