Car Insurance Renewal Price Hike

Looking for some help with car insurance?

I was involved in a small accident prior to Christmas which I was not at fault. The other driver admitted total liability and my car was repaired using his insurance company (he was fully comp). I was advised to inform my insurance company of the incident which I did. I am fully comp with full no claims protected, I have never had any claims or convictions in over twenty years of driving.

I was shocked to receive my renewal recently and my insurance premium has doubled in price!!!!!

Is this how insurance works? Someone hits my car, they claim liability, I get penalised for being a good driver and having the correct cover. :mad:mad: Is there anything I can do? I have already spoken with my insurance company to no avail.

  • Have you checked with them that the accident is down as a non fault with your excess recovered?

I would look elsewhere for quotes, which I assume you do every year.

I'm afraid some insurance companies take the view that your risk profile increases just by being involved in an accident, even when you are not to blame. Any excuse to grab more in premiums.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

This. They'll use anything they can to bump the price up. Did you phone on a day that ended in a y? That'll probablty have accounted for a few quid as well.

Do some comparisons and then speak to some independents and see what prices you get. Check cashback sites too to see if you can reduce the overall payment further with some money off.

Then enjoy telling current insurer where to go. Assuming the accident has been recorded properly as non-fault.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

My car was written off in December, the other driver was at fault and their insurance company has finally paid up and my NCD has been reinstated. My renewal came up a few days ago, after my NCD had been reinstated, and it was FOUR times what it had been - I had been paying just over £200 and the renewal came in at £850.

I told them to forget it, went online and got a new policy with another insurer for a couple of quid over £200.

It's a pain, but apparently it's just the way it goes.

Don't bother with protected no-claims bonus.
They give you the same amount of no claims when you renew(after a claim),but put it up to the same cost as it would be without it.

    Waste of money.

Same happened to me, but thanks to the free market in insurance I found a price similar to I paid the year before.

Insurance companies treat all customers as stupid, some of them are and will pay whatever they are asked.

Yep, you've just got to remember that there are plenty of other insurers out there and loyalty counts for less than nothing these days!
