Grow Your Own Mushrooms - Is it worth it?
Comments
-
If you are considering them to save money, they are a total waste of time. That said, they are of educational use for children (and some adults) and they are fun.
As an MSE wheeze, however., they are not much use. That said, if you are very keen on exotic mushrooms (no, not that kind!) and currently pay a small fortune for them from specialist retailers, then some of the exotic kits might be worth playing around with.0 -
To be honest, you'd be better off dumping the stuff at the bottom of a secluded damp bit of garden and hoping for the best.0

Ask me in a year
I ordered some dowel/spawn rather than buy a kit from the shop. I got yellow oyster mushrooms and blewitts - I didn't see the point in growing bog standard button mushrooms. 0 -
I get Wood Blewitts - Lepista nuda - on my lawn. Probably associated with the nearby hedge. You might want to break up pieces of wild mushroom and spread them on the ground near trees and hedges, and you might be rewarded with mushrooms in the Autumn. Many fungi are associated with trees.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

We tried this one time, and got a few, but not a great deal, generally i dont think its worth it apart from the joy of actually growing something.0
