Car warranty
Options
Hi,
I bought a used car last year from Jaguar dealer. It came with a one year warranty, which runs out this week.
About 2 weeks ago I started having some trouble with the engine (the engine malfunction light comes on and restricts the power). I went into the dealer and they took a look and told me that they couldn't find a fault. I've had this problem again this week and have taken the car to the dealer.
I'm hoping they will find and fix the problem as it is under warranty. However I wanted to check what my rights are if the problem persists after the warranty expires. I know normally I'd have no rights but as this problem has started during the warranty period, do they still need to cover me?
Thanks in advance for your help and comments.

I'm no expert but it sounds like the car is detecting a fault and putting the engine into 'limp home mode' and thereby restricting the power.
Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, I suppose from the dealer's perspective if they've plugged your car into their computer and no fault codes have been generated it's difficult to know how they can proceed - they can't really begin replacing parts without knowing where the fault lies if they're genuinely unable to find it.
Perhaps take the car somewhere else for a second opinion?0 -
You are right; it goes into "limp home mode".
Today they have found a fault, but they need to look at it further to understand where it's coming from. Looks like the car will be with them for a couple of days.0 -
All you can do now is sit tight for a day or two and see what they come back with.
Hopefully it's a minor fault that can be easily rectified.0 -
Thanks. What do you think of the warranty? Do you think they will still cover me out of warranty?0

If its the same fault and you notified them while warranty was in force then you shouldn't have an issue, assuming the original warranty would of covered it."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0
