Can they drop my money ?

I work with a group of 28 and it has just come to notice that 2 of us are on £750 per year more than every one else...they are going to go to H R to say that they want the same money for doing the same job ( fair enough )...can the company freeze our pay untill every one catches up..or can they cut our money..we have done nothing wrong and we both have over 15 years service with the company....thanks

yes they can give others a pay rise and not you
    - happened to me even though I did a different job to the others but told we all did the same so that was their excuse for no rise for me.

There is nothing unlawful in paying different rates to different employees doing the same job* and your colleagues do not have any legal right to demand that the company pay you all the same.

*(provided the difference is not based on a discriminatory reason such as sex, race, disability, or age)

So you may find that HR tell the other employees that, and take no further action.

If HR does cut your wages (which is possible but not very likely), come back for further information as there isn't much point in going into all the 'what ifs' of something that might never happen.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

The employer can also refuse to pay the other 28 any more money and even give you more if they want to.

Do the 28 also have 15 years' service with the same employer?

Never ever assume that at all. Do you have it in your contract that you are allowed to talk about salary and pay rises? Mine had a ruling that you were not allowed to do so.

Yeah nothing more than that and now they are all marching on HR to demand more money and you could get a pay freeze - oops

In my department there are about eight of us doing exactly the same job; same targets, same hours, same everything. I've known since day one that they are on up to 2k more a year than me, despite me being in the department for the longest time!

I spoke to my boss about this in a constructive way asking about the possibility of a rise. I brought to the meeting proof of my having exceeded target for the two years I'd been in the department at the time etc, and I was flat out refused!
