default nightmare... help please

Here's one to get you thinking...
Last year I found that I had a default placed on my account by mbna after a call from a debt management agency. I was shocked and paid the full amount immediately - £3500.
I wrote to MBNA explaining i hadnt received the default notice, but my pleas fell on deaf ears. So i then tried using all the usual tricks described elsewhere on this site to get the default removed but they told me they had followed procedure etc.. And they would not budge.
So next step was the ombudsman. Whilst this was going on we received a letter from the post office telling us that all our mail had been stolen by the postman over the period when we would have had the default letter. We then spoke to the post office who have admitted full liability. Armed with this info we duly told the ombudsman but again no joy as his view was that MBNA had followed procedure and it was "just one of those things". Whilst I understood his objective view it leaves me with a default on my account... He didn't even inform MBNA of the post situation.
So, the million dollar question is.... What do I do next ?
Thank you so much for any advice !

I can't answer your question. But didn't you realise you owed 3.5 grand ?
Did you expect it to be forgotten about ?0 -
How did you not realise you weren't making payments ? To owe £3500 and forget about it is pretty unbelievable really.
You must have missed quite a few payments for it to be passed to a DMC. The FOS is correct, MBNA have followed the correct procedure, it's not their fault that your mail wasn't delivered. Before the default was issued you would have received notification of the missed payments.0 -

If you had a default placed on the account before you paid 3.5k then MBNA shouldn't remove the default as it doesn't work like that it should say satisfied next to the default.0 -
So you didn't receive the default notice, but surely you must have received your statements and letters asking you for payments?
The postman can't have stolen every single letter that was sent to you about this debt.0 -
Thank you for posts... For clarity Iwas unaware the monthly payments weren't being made (at the time i didnt check every line of my bank statement - which i now do) and yes, all post can be considered as lost...0

From experience I can say... MBNA are the worst in the business at getting them to budge once you have a default / payment arrangement against your account.
I tried every trick in the book to get them to remove some AP markers on my file. they simply wouldn't.
I tried standard complaints 3 times, the ombudsman, excutive MBNA complaints.
Nobody would budge, they are the toughest company I have experienced.
I admitted defeat and let the AP markers be. they havn't hinded me too much with credit.
Moral of the story MBNA won't remove anything. give up get a Vanquis card start building your credit history from scratch.
and NEVER, NEVER do business with MBNA again.

Why would you expect AP markers or defaults to be removed ?0 -

If they are correct about the account, they are following the legislationDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

how can you be unaware the monthly payments weren't being made... come on
also, i'm sure they would have tried to contact you by phone... ah but you will have changed your number.
so, you failed to make payments (banks error) you didn't get statements (post office error) and you didn't get phone calls (phone companies error?)
:rotfl:If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...:think:0
