Republic to go into administration!!!

Just heard on Sky News that the retailer Republic is to go into administration tomorrow with the loss of about 1000 jobs.

Another on bites the dust....where will it end?!!!

Can't help feeling there's more to come this year :-(

Shame my daughter used them a lot.

Seemed to have a premium edge sitting between the big brands and the more budget minded outlets.

I fear you may be right; it doesn't seem like any retailer is particularly 'safe'.

I'm very hesitant to buy gift cards these days in view of what happened with Jessops and HMV.

I wonder if the rental reviews have something to do with it...many are reviewed per quarter...March the next one..
At the end of the day people ain't getting a pay rise or if they are lucky 2%...basic items are going up much more than inflation so something has to give..
In this case young people don't have full time work...so shops are going to be hard it...difficult times.
  • Yes definitely agree Reggie256, i think everbody is again becoming very hesitant and cautious!!
A shame as we all would like to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but i don't somehow think that is going to be this year, not as things look at the moment anyway:-(

It's a shame. This is the first store that I can think of that has had quite a dedicated younger following. I do wonder therefore if it will resurrect, perhaps with a few flagship stores and a ramped up web presence.

Young adults with limited money and job prospects are becoming more wary of spending money. We have seen working families struggling, this now confirms that even the young spend thrifts are starting to be more prudent with their pennies. Won't help the economy grow but it will be one less shop for my son, (he's 16) to drag me into.

I bought some products from Republic's website this morning as they had a free next day delivery offer on.

Anybody know what my consumer rights are if the goods don't turn up tomorrow?

Basically can I go into the store and take my receipt and take what I've paid for?
