Ask the pharmacist as own brands are usually the same as long as they have the same active ingredient, calpol isnt really that expensve but even superdrug own would be the same as long as its got the same active ingredient.
I'm not sure about medised but seeing as it's an over counter medicine anyway you' be best speaking to the pharmasist.

i have used the lloyds pharmacy own brands they do 1 for under 6 and one for over 6.tastes .
Under 6 cherry flavour - really nice tasting
over 6 - orange from memory - okay but nothing too special

They save loads of money, and re readily available.

Asda do an own brand liquid paracetomal, so no doubt the likes of Boots and Tesco do too, which is what Calpol is.

I dont use medised as i dont like the idea of giving a seditive to a small child, so no idea on that i'm afraid.

Your docory can perscribe liquid paracetomol. Our doctors seem to give it out on every visit, no matter what the ailment.

    Therefore the cost =£0

I've used Galpomol, the poundland alternative to calpol, and it's fine. Stopped my little girl crying with teething pain and it tastes of strawberry and is sugar free so she was quite happy to take it. I was quite impressed with Poundland really- they do benylin cough syrup for babies and some other well known branded medicine. I've not seen any alternative to medised though, and it is quite good when little one has a cold, so I'll probably stick with that.

    Hi

If you truly cant afford this, then your GP should be able to perscribe on perscription free of charge if child is under 16.

Basically if it is child paracetamol and sold in a shop it should be safe.

Galpamol is made by Galpharm which are a huge company who make products from the same things which are sold cheaper, like hayfever meds etc which are usually sold in the likes of £ stores, home bargains etc http://www.galpharm.co.uk/ info here. The cold sore cream has the same contents (active ingredient) as Zovriax, I buy it in the £ shop, works a treat and saves me about £5+. http://www.galpharm.co.uk/products/product.cfm?product=52

As for GPs, some do some don't, our GP has the attitude of if you can't afford children you shouldn't have them and refuses.
One day I might be more organised...........

GP can give you prescriptions for this (prescriptions are free for under 16s)
Health visitors are also allowed to prescribe this (not many people know this) and of course prescriptions are free for under 16s.

I have it on repeat prescription for both my kids. Once the bottle is getting low I just repeat order another bottle before they start the next round of headaches, earache, temperature, cough cold and flu....

I have used Boots own make and Tescos and both fine. I always go for the ones with sugar (not sugar free as those have sweetners which are not good for kids)

Couldn't give you answer without your childs medical history...but then that's what your Doc. is for....ask your GP!
