My elderly mum cannot look after herself and is lucky enough to have a big home to live in with my brother & his family. They are on holiday for a couple of weeks and mum can't cope with the steps and stairs at my house, where previously she has stayed. In addition I am now out at work, compared to last time when I was able to work at home full time.
We have put her in a "home" for the couple of weeks and as it is near her old house , she will have visitors. I don't have kids myself so it was a totally new experience to leave her there yesterday in a strange environment with other patients of varying condition - many worse than my mum who is still quite sharp.
No comment other than how emotionally hard it was, even though at this stage it is temporary and it absolutely is the best/safest option...

I've never been in that position myself but just wanted to send you some internet stranger love and reassurance that it sounds like it's absolutely the best place for her for these few weeks.
She's lucky to have such loving children xLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

For future times could you go to stay with her (or she with you) and pay for some companion care during the day whilst you're at work?:hello:0
