Hi ,
Early December I contacted MSE after seeing Martin Lewis T.V show and wanted to get a better deal on my gas & electric , I was with Scottish Power for about 8 years and never switched before but decided to go with British Gas after doing a price comparison with energy help line who MSE advertised and was happy with the deal and the switch up till now.
I've always had pre payment meters for both my gas and electricity, and to my astonishment I received a bill this morning from Scottish Power saying I owe them £44.53 for my gas.
I've never owed Scottish Power any money and have always been on pre payment meters so I can budget.
I'm just wondering does this happen to a lot of people as it seems like a scam as to where everytime you switch to a different energy provider the previous will hit you with a bill .
If anybody could help me with this I would be very grateful

It sounds like the transfer reading may have been inaccurate. In theory prepayment accounts should transfer with no debt, but sometimes there can be a discrepancy between the payments received, the reading used to close the account and the reading on the meter at the time of transfer.
If you send an e-mail with your details to social@scottishpower.com we can look into this for you.

I've just been on to British Gas and the meter reading was taken down wrong and they are in the process of getting back to me after looking into this.
