I don't use a shelf kit for heavy duty shelving; get brackets, fixings and a plank.
Personally I wouldn't opt for a floating shelf for a load of heavy textbooks - while they may well be able to take more than you (or I) expect; they still cannot hold as much as an actual bracket can.
I find that these are very good; http://www.screwfix.com/p/hi-load-bracket-147kg-200-x-200mm-pack-of-10/30268
And I make sure they're very well fixed with these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/fischer-l-type-wallbolts-m8-x-70mm-pack-of-5/85762
(I'm fully aware thats really overkill)
My really heavy-duty shelf (for 2 PCs and all my uni textbooks) can manage over half a ton: 3 of these; http://www.screwfix.com/p/heavy-duty-brackets-black-400-x-400mm-pack-of-2/61866
