Vertu - trying it on

Last friday (08/2/13) I had to take my Honda into Vertu Honda, Newcastle for a recall repair (window electrics). While there I was told my car had a number of faults one of which being a broken suspension link/another being that the engine oil was on minimum. Since I had only recently had the car tested and it passed I told the receptionist this. The response was that my car should never have passed the mot test. I was also reminded again that the car needed a litre of oil. I declined to allow the garage to carry out these repairs (£95 plus for the suspension and whatever they charge for oil). I checked the oil myself and it needed less than half a litre to top it up. I also revisited the mot tester and queried the suspension issue. The car would have passed the test again! Are things so tough in the garage trade at the moment to try and generate extra business by inventing work?

Happens all the time...
Best way to avoid it is to get your MOT done at a testing only facility (and your council can point you towards one that they use), then take the car into your choice of garage to fix the faults on the list, then re-test at the testing-only place. May cost you an extra tenner or so, but it saves vested interests from inventing work.0 -
The car had been tested at an independent testing station - the recall work was being paid for by Honda - it was the dealer who tried to drum up extra work by inventing/embellishing what repairs the car should have. The worst part though was insisting that the car should not have passed the mot.0
