Lived down the road under Fareham council a couple of years ago and I think they charge £200 for the first kerbstone and £150 for each subsequent one.

We spent £500 to get drop kerb extended and yep BB turned up and did the job in 45 minutes.

    The first time...........................

Had them back 5 times to put it right, get it level, remove tar from car, level it again, fix kerb properly etc.

Their excuse - we contract it out. So if they can do it why cant you.

Basically the council are cutting back on spending.

Their admin dept who would have handled it are made redundant.

BB kindly agree to administer the scheme for free (but hit anyone requiring the work done with a massive bill).

Think your approach is correct. You can get whoever you want to do this job as long as its signed off. Be aware that the permission you will get from the council is a temporary one and they could revoke it at any time. We had historical pictures of cars on driveways in the road going back 25 years and they still claimed it was a temporary right that could be revoked at any time.
  • £1400 is about right.

We are having one done in Kent - quotes range from £1200 to £3500!!

And we can also only use contractors on a list.

This is in addition to £380 fee to Kent County Council!

@southcoastrgi - I get the idea that you work for BB or the council. The new shiny building smells of vomit and is a massive waste of tax payers money.

@ukjoel - Thanks for your information mate that is very helpful. I was quoted the same by people who had them done less that 18 months ago. I though an increase of a couple hundred, not the quote I got of £1783 for a single entrance.

@GentleGiant - Who is doing that work, and is it a single entrance? How many kerb stones?

Other councils do the same. Coventry CC say they will do all of their dropped kerbs even if people are autorised and have the correct insurances.

If thats the way they do things then you have no other options.

    Registered Gas Installer?

Ahh sorry I am in a right rage about this but trying not to bring it here. Hence missing the humour, but the stone work does look great.

So £100 million paid to BB to do the potholes, £250k claimed because of them in 2011, the council is hailing the scheme for saving them £250k for no claims...

But I digress. I have done some further research and had my spies out, I have written to my Local councillor, and raised a FOI request for a list of contractors who have been allowed to do work since BB took over.

I have been quoted £1780+, but have a chum who knows someone who works there and they have given me the break down of what the price is made up of...

£1780 in Southampton city, but outside city limits £675... This town has gone to the dogs!

    Hi Lozsta,

Did you ever hear back from the council following your Freedom of Information request? What did your local councillor say?

I'm looking to extend my drop kerb and I live in the area.

Also, the prices you have quoted in your last post - what do they call 'outside city limits'?

It's certainly frustrating that each council can do their own thing!

    Thanks

No my freedom of information request was not answered correctly they just came back with excuese. Councillor did something, and I got the price of £1400 compared to the £1800 I was quoted, worth kicking off over.

The council don't own the roads and highways, they manage them, they are paid by the community to provide a service.
