Ppi

How far back can i put in a PPI claim?

Comments

  • There is a consensus that there is a time limit (6 Years I think) but I have personally made a successful claim against Barclaycard going back into the 90's. A lot of your success will depend on the paperwork that you have retained and what you can prove in payments made. Barclaycard offered an average but I had evidence on old statements so took this to the Financial Ombudsman and was found in favor of and the claim offer was increased.
    Mortgage @ April 2010 £86000 (18yr 2 yr Fixed 3.99 then 1.99 over BR - Currently 2.49)
    Balance @ Jan 2017 £56992
    Over payment's
    to date £2100
MF Date - March 2020 or sooner
  • Thanks,
Does the time limit of six years also apply to mortgages and bank loans.

I personally would look to make a claim for the entirety (all mortgages/loans/cards, anything that had payment protection is covered). I made several claims myself, all successful using this board and others that are similar (C.A.G) that have guide letters that you can use.

1/ always send any correspondence using registered post (small cost)
2/ keep copies of all letters/dates etc
3/ ask for a subject access request( usually £10) this is a legal obligation for the company to provide data it hold's on you, it should be all but it is sanitized. I obtained actual signed (copies) agreements from one card holder which showed a pre ticked PPI box, obviously I won this also.
4/ if you feel that you are justified, take your claim to the financial Ombudsman service
5/ don't take the first offer if you feel that you have been short changed.
6/ Companies did (when I was making my claims, may be easier now after the court ruling) try to fob you off in the first instance saying that your PPI was sold correctly, don't accept this if you feel that your have a rightful claim. Write back with your appeal, again registered post.

    Hope this helps,
