Eon - which tariff to switch to...
Hi all,
I am currently on the Eon Saveonline 11 tariff, which ends in a couple of weeks.
I have just submitted meter readings, and looking back to the ones I did this time last year, I have used 3462 kw/h of electricity and 1770 kw/h of gas.
I am trying to decide which of their tariffs to switch to, the Discount v1 or the Fixed 1 year v3.
From what I can tell, the main difference is that the discount v1 is 3% less than their standard plan, whereas the fixed is 1.5% less.
However, I assume that the fixed will stay at 1.5% less than their standard plan on the date of switching, whereas the discount one will always be 3% less than their standard, but will increase if/when their standard one increases.
Is this correct or does anyone have any opinions?
Cheers.

Why not check out the switching sites? Eon seem to come way down the list of cheapest tariffs these days.0

Hi all,

Seems as if you have got those figures from meter readings.
If so that is 1770 gas units which is around 19,800kWh with a metric meter.0 -
It's really your decision as to whether you want a fixed or variable tariff-we can't decide that for you.
Agree with Cardew, your annual gas usage cannot possibly be that low, since 16,500kWh pa is the average for a property with gas CH and DWH.
Gas meters read volume only (in metric or imperial units), not kWh.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
You're right those figures are from my meter readings.
Which comparison site do people recommend as I haven't used one for this before?
I understand that you can't choose the type of tariff, however does my understanding of how the discount and fixed tariffs work sound feasible?0 -

I personally like http://www.energyhelpline.com/energy/rg_home.aspx?aid=107
You don't have to give email or personal details and gives fuller details of each tariff e.g.
Pay On Receipt of Bill customers will be BILLED MONTHLY (not each quarter), making it easier for customers to keep on top of their bills as they will be able to see how much they are spending on energy on a monthly basis.
Prompt Payment Discount applies when customers pay their bill in full. Fixed 1 Year prices are fixed for 12 months beginning on the day E.ON starts supplying your energy. Your prices will not change from the contracted price within the term of your deal. There is a cancellation fee of £10 if you switch away before the end of the guarantee period (This fee is waived if you are switching over to another E.ON tariff).
The estimated savings figure on the results table assumes tariff
rates and discounts remain the same for a year. However, after the contract period E.ON will either transfer you to the closest equivalent offer available or their EnergyPlan tariff, either of which may be more expensive than Fixed 1 Year.
Customers on this tariff can receive an extra discount of £10.50 a year (not included in the savings figure) as a reward for managing their account online.
Customers are also eligible for a loyalty discount of £10.50 for staying with E.ON for 1 year, £15.75 for 2 years and £21 for 3 or more years (not included in the savings figure).
Yes your understanding is correct, fixed means charges will not change for the period of the tariff. Discount can follow the Standard tariff charges up or down.0 -

Tell us your area and we will I'm sure give a helping hand! It can be a bit daunting checking out all the T&C's attached to each tariff. Contrary to what switching sites want you to believe (they survive/thrive due to getting a cash kickback from the energy suppliers for 'recommending' you) it's not just a matter of choosing the supplier and tariff that comes out on top.0
