August isn't a 'cost effective' time to hire a motor home.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I have looked at this several times, both here and on the continent.
(Not loads of detail)
I love the idea ... I just never found anything that was cheaper than finding B&B's... or on the other side camping.
Be really interested what others think or have found though....0 -
Yeah the same, The hire costs + campsite fees, You can get a B&B or chalet or static caravan etc for much less.
Drivers who passed their test after 1997 may not be able to drive some of them also. Insurance is usually fairly costly, This is what bumps the hire charge up.
You cannot skimp on insurance for something worth £30,000 +Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just wondering if you went ahead with this. I've been looking at UK websites and have been less than impressed, I can't find anything with a straightforward pricing structure. Most want you to submit all details for a "personal quote" and several seem to have multiple websites for the same company. I know this isn't a cheap holiday option but it something I would like to try but just want to know where to start with a reputable company. Anyone got any recommendations to share?0

They want to know if you a genuine person and not someone who will steal it and whisk it abroad within an hour of hiring it.
If you owned something worth £40,000 + You would probably do the same.
Make sure the company exist before paying out.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Plenty of people I know who have come to the UK have bought a van type motorhome for between 2-5k. Toured the country for 6 months or longer and then re-sold the camper at the end.0

There are numerous motorhome web sites and forums where you would get more relevant help than on here.
When asking this question you need to state how many people; where you intend staying at night (on a campsite or wilding);where you intend going (different rules in Scotland); what facilities you think you want etc.
renting is not a cheap option and most rentals tend to limit your ability to wild camp thus missing out on cheap overnight stays.
