General (I hope) Windows 8 Question

Hi, I recently bought a laptop and only now got to setting it up and have a a couple questions regarding Windows 8 - well, a few questions grouped into two different areas :)

1. When I connected my email address, it somehow displays my contacts from my iPhone in the "People" section. I have never typed in these contacts from my iphone into my email contacts, so how could this have happened and how would I go about disabling this from happening again (i do not want my personal phone contacts floating about on the internet, even if its supposedly only for my eyes)? Iv logged onto the hotmail account in firefox and clicked on contacts, I get a "People" window again and I dont see anywhere on the page where it states how it would have gotten these details. Will deleting them keep them off "People", or will they just re-appear OR will deleting them from "People" somehow delete these contacts off my phone? - found nothing on google about this, just pages regarding windows 8 phones.

2. In some windows in Microsoft 8 (such as the "Make changes to my account in PC settings") itl be full screen and remain open.... how on earth do i close these windows (not minimise, but to completely close)? the only way i can manage to get rid of them is to alt+F4 them.

If I could be anymore clear with my queries, please dont hesitate to let me know. thanks in advanced :)

  • Not sure about point 1, but on point 2 I assume you are using the funky Metro front end? The one with all the colourful boxes.

You can switch between apps by pressing the windows key and ALT, this will allow you to switch between any running metro apps including the desktop "app"

When at the desktop move your mouse to the top left corner of the screen. You'll get a preview of open apps. Right-click and select close the apps you want to close.

Computeractive magazine has produced a number of guides on the Windows 8 interface which may be of use to you.

Here's a link to one I found which may be of use -

It's called progress - Microsoft have decided that your PC would be better with a mobile phone interface.
