Free SportsDirect bags that cost you 69p

Today I went to Sports Direct (Bradford Forster Sq) to buy pair of PE shoes for my son. I was happy to see there was further 10% off displayed price which was supposed to be automatically applied at till. I paid by card but I wasn’t given a receipt until I asked for it. I noticed on the receipt I was charged for a bag4life which I didn’t ask for, wasn’t offered one and wasn’t given one . I returned to checkout to dispute the charge but was told that I had to buy this bag to get 10% off shoes, the salesman “forgot to tell me about it because the bag was only 69p and the discount was higher and for T&Cs to verify it I had to go online (even though I was buying in store)”. He was happy to take the bag back but threatened that I would lose my discount.
To cut the story short I managed to confirm I was miss-sold the bag and got my money back.
Estimating Sports Direct gives just 10 “free” bags per day they pocket £2,500 per annum. Beware!

Doies not matter how much IMO, they added a charge that was not agreed to, and terms not available instore but only online which also is probably illegal

and after dodging step ladders and tripping over boxes finally got to the till and was charged for a bag I didn't want or receive. None of the teenagers working there understood the problem. Welcome to Sports Direct.:)

btw i went into SD and it just says 10% off footwear, no t+c at all so seems that particular store is pulling a fast one

I don't know their internal dynamics but I don't go there after a friend was put under some pressure to buy this bag by a member of staff (who I understand was under pressure to get commission). What money they collect from these bags for life is, at my guess (which is all it is) lost from customers who don't appreciate the tactic or feel mis-sold.

I agree with the OP, it may only be 69p, but it's still enough to potentially irritate customers.

I'm quite shocked they charged you for a product you didn't even receive, IMO e-mail Trading Standards.
