Orange 2nd Line Termination

Hi, Have today received a letter informing me that my 2nd Line with Orange is to be disconnected/terminated. For the honour of doing this they want to charge me an extra £5.00 (25%) to continue with the one BT line that I use to operate my free for life boardband. It appears this is a way of getting around the broadband issue.
Can they increase my contract from £15 per month to £20 (25% plus increase). Is this legal. Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it. As I use my orange 2nd line through the wireless broadband hub 100% of the time and have given this out to all my contact it now means I have to change my number let every one know at my expense as the number is not transferable and there appears there is nothing I can do.
Having said all that the deal I was originally on was such a good deal that even with the extra £5 they want to charge it still remains cheaper than Sky/BT and other operators I believe.
Any help and advise would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Your contract is for service and has no relevance to the amount you are asked to pay. Yes, they can change prices as well as add and remove services and features, so there is no issue legalty.
There is no such thing as ownership of a number - your line rental pays for it, and the network rents them in a block from OFCOM. If they cease the VOIP facility all these numbers are given up and passed back to OFCOM or reused for a different purpose.0 -

Take the deal.0 -
gjjejj, did Orange indicate that you can keep the 2nd line by paying the increased amount?
I've also got the Orange 2nd line as part of my broadband and don't want to lose it.
They offered me a package based on moving my landline to Orange however it's not as good as what i've got now...so why should I change???
Also, apart from being called, I've had nothing in writing about this other than a letter last year when I was told my 2nd line would continue as long as it's being used.0 -
Hi Giowio
No even if I take the option of staying with Orange my 2nd line will cease and the number will be gone. I will have to use my BT number but I will pay my line rental to Orange.
Looking around the deal I've been offered by Orange is still the best around but the frustration is the deal I had was better. I would probable not have worried but the fact is I am now being incoveniced because I will have to let everyone know that my number is changing through no fault of my own and Orange just don't seem to care. Customer Service seems to have gone and as soon as I'm offered something close to what I have been offered I will be off. There again reading lots of threads know matter who you choose eventually they seem to upset you so is it a case of better the devil you know!!!!!!!!
Thanks again0
