Just a thought ... but have you got animations switched off? That would stop you seeing the "licky tongue" on the other smiley

Actually I probably have. I'll go take a look at my user cp.

Can't find where the switch is for animations.

After reading various posts on here where people buy a whole chicken, I've decided I'm going to try this too. Up until now all I ever bought was chicken breasts, so this is a big step!

Am a totla newbie to this whole chicken thing so would like some advice! Will I be able to cook it in the slow cooker and if so how? How many meals should I expect to get from 1 medium chicken between 2 adults? I was thinking maybe like a roast one night and using what's left to make other dishes to freeze, eg curry. Finally how long once cooked will it keep in the fridge?

I've only recently started buying a whole chicken (used to hate stuff with bones in and always bought chicken breast :o ).
It is really, really easy to do in the slow cooker and it tastes lovely. All I did was bung it in the slow cooker with about 1" of water in the bottom with either a chicken or veg stock cube or some herbs or some veggies chopped up.
Because it is so soft I always struggle to get it out in one piece and end up slicing it in the slow cooker.

I had a big-medium chicken and I got 3 meals and stock (which could have made soup) out of it. If you don't feel like eating chicken on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday you can freeze it once it has been cooked.

    Hi Crazy Hazy

From one roast chicken I get a fairly heafty roast meal for 2 adults followed by 4 portions (2 to eat & 2 for the freezer) of either curry or chicken pasta bake with the chicken judiciously eeked out with veg etc plus enough chicken for a couple of rounds of sandwiches or coronation chicken or a salad plus stock/soup. I could probably make it go further if we weren't so greedy at the roast dinner stage! The cat & dog get the skin between them as neither of us like that:rolleyes: . I pick the bones really clean though. No meat at all goes to waste.

I will let someone else tell you about slow cooking chicken as I am still relatively new to slow cooking & stick to roasting mine in the oven:o

My OH would just eat the whole chicken in one sitting (except for the bones of course  ). He's one of those .... see food....eat it kind of people. When we are with my parents and sister we sometimes have a chinese. My OH is known as one of those that will clear everything else up until he bursts.

I thought about doing this, but as you can probably tell it wouldn't last 5 seconds in our house. I'd stand a better chance of getting 3 meals out of a hedgehog.

Don't let him in the kitchen when you are dishing up. Then, before you eat, quickly divide the chicken into 4 portions and hide it then get it into the freezer as quickly as possible so he can't pick at it later.

another quick q - when you say 4 portions is that for 1 person or 2? So basically if I cooked the chicken on the sunday, we could have it for dinner then and probably again on tuesday aswell as freezing some meals?

Problem is OH cooks! I don't get home until 6.30pm and he is there at 4pm. As he can't sit still he does the cooking so it is ready when I get home. It wouldn't matter what I told him, he would still pile everything on the plate! You should have seen how much lamb he ate from a roast we had a while back. I was hoping to have some left...no chance.
