How much should I get from the insurance company?

Somebody very kindly ran into the back of my car on the motorway on Tuesday. Having got estimates for the repair, it seems likely that my insurance company will deem the car to be beyond economical repair. My question is, how much should I push them for, for writing off the car?

The details are:

1993 K registration Astra 1.6i automatic petrol estate .
114,000 miles and fairly average condition for its age.

N reg vectra got paid £800 and got to keep the car. Yours is a couple years older so I’d guess £500 or £600.

Also consider keeping it if it’s still useable ie not too badly damaged

    Just an update.

They phoned and offered £450. When I declined, the immediately offered £550. We eventually settled on £600, which I think is probably a fair price.

    Thanks for all the feedback.
