BT Charges after cancellation

My Cousin cancelled BT and started using Sky on her home telephone, so that she only pays BT for line rental.
That was back in December, anyway she got a final bill in January for over £100 more than she normally paid them, but she accepted that is what it was.
Anyway, fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when she got another bill stating they had an error in there systems and hadn't charged her for the internet from Aug-Nov and therefore she owes them another £160.
Are they legally allowed to do this? She is unable to check back with old phone bills as she threw them in the bin when she cancelled with them and got her final payment through.
They have admitted it was a fault in there system. She is obviously at a loss of what to do, but is struggling to find the money to pay for these bills.

First rule: Keep all paperwork!
Sounds like she was within a contract period as that would explain the payments. When was the line installed, was she within a minimum contract period? What BT Together Option was she on before reverting back to Option 1?
You say that they hadn't charged her for her internet. What internet; I presume we are talking BT Broadband? Am I right?0 -
There was a problem for BT not charging for some 0845 etc numbers for a period last year and they are catching up.
A person I work with got these added onto their bill this time and wrote a letter stating that the previous bill stated it was for all call charges for that period so why should they have to pay. BT deleted the charges ... worth a try.
And if she is paying £130 for dial up internet !!!!!!0
