Make-up for the big day

I went for a make up trial in body shop at the weekend just to start getting ideas and as nice as the experience was, I didn't feel like "me" afterwards. She'd worked in BS for 6 years and was trained so she was by no means a newbie, but it wasn't for me anyway. I did buy lots of products that I could use on the day as I'm fairly confident in make up and am honestly aiming for the more natural look, but I'd recommend hitting the make up counters for consultations. Body shop was kind enough to offer me free make up on the morning of my wedding if I went in at 9am, so if you're really on a tight budget then it might be worth paying them a visit.Debt Free - Go Me0

My mum is paying for my make up and hair on the day. I'm paying for the bridesmaids and hers. I'm having my hair trail on the 4th March, make up on the 5th.
I know how stressed I getting if my make up isn't 100% when I'm just going out so what I'd be like on my wedding day I don't know.
I think it's going to be money well spent just for the fact i can relax and be pampered.First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
My mums paying for mine. She bought me bareminerals for Christmas for me as this is what they use where she's booked me trail. But I tried it and just didn't feel like I had any foundation on and didn't feel like it covered anything.
Has anyone else used bareminerals and felt the same?0 -

Me. I did. I felt like the Bare Minerals needed something to stick to (if that makes sense).
My MA used bare minerals for my wedding make up. When she did the trial she didn't use a primer and I did feel like it didn't cover the darkness under my eyes so I was a little bit worried. On the day I raised my concerns with her and she said she didn't use the primer for the trial but would be using it on the day, and I said about coverage, and not feeling it covered the darkness and so she tried Benefit Bo ing (they call it their industrial strength concealer!!!) and its great, she said that Benefit and Bare minerals work very well together (and she was so impressed with the Bo ing she was going to invest in some herself!!), so it could be worth looking into- The make up lasted fab all day and just felt so light on. It may be worth having a little trial with Benefit to see if they have anything you can use as a base. (if its just small areas definitely try the Bo ing, I invested in it after the wedding and it covers so well and lasts for ages.)
I will de lurk again now!!:D0 -
I had a hair and make up artist for my wedding day and I was so glad I did. I don't have a ton of confidence so I was worried that it was going to go wrong. I would have hated to not have wanted to show off my wedding photos. It took a lot of stress and strain off of the morning knowing that I had someone doing it that knew what they were doing and as a result I felt amazing. It wasn't cheap but I do not regret spending the money at all. x0

I am rubbish at doing my own make up... Everyday is a small amount of mascara and I cover any spots. It's done in about thirty seconds but suits me fine lol! So I arranged to have somebody do my make up for me.
My sister in law however, did have someone do her make up, but really regretted it. She wasn't happy with how she had done it, what she looked like etc and really tried to persuade me to not have one, and do it myself!
I do think they are quite expensive... Could you not have a friend do it for you?Married my wonderful husband on 8/9/12 :j0 -
I have been thinking of going for a make-up lesson or something similar.
I'd be happy to pay for some decent primer, concealer etc so if someone can show me and I practice a few times, and like the results, then I think I might try that.
I don't get stressed over make-up. The things I would have to leave to the professionals are hair and nails - I can't do my nails for toffee as they always get smudged!0 -
My OH wants me to have a make-up artist because he wants me to be pampered (awww), but the cost is horrendous. I haven't seen anything under £60 for the day, and slightly less again for the trial. After watching a Don't Tell The Bride where she ended up looking like a clown (but that may have been just because the MA was directed by the groom), I don't want to get the wrong MA, and can't afford different trials.
I would like one, just to help with less stress, don't want any panic attacks in the morning, and my hands were shaking enough trying to do make-up before a dress fitting!
