Hi all,
Is anyone doing their own make-up for their wedding?
I'm wondering whether to save myself some money and just do it myself, or do the professionals use make-up that looks better on the photos or something?
Thanks

I decided to splash out on having my make up professionally done (when else will I get the chance?!) and I had my trial on Saturday. Honestly, I could NEVER in a million years do my make up to look as good as she did, and most people think I do my make up really nicely. I kept it on all day and it lasted beautifully. My skin looked flawless, my eyes looked amazing but I still looked really natural - was worried about looking like a drag queen.
I bet others have done their own make up and looked perfect but I know I would never be able to do mine as well as the professional, and it is the one day I really want to look my best and feel amazing and like a princess0 -
Thanks Daisie
I think I am trying to keep costs down - it will be second-time round for me so I don't want to go mad. But then, perhaps peace of mind is sometimes better, especially as I am renowned for spending 5 minutes on my make-up :rotfl:0 -
My mum is paying for our hair and make up to be done on the day

I had my make up done by a professional for my wedding day and Im so glad I did, the make up she used felt so light but lasted all day. Its worth shopping around as you may be able to find someone who doesnt charge a fortune- I paid £60 and that was for me (day and a trial), 2 bridesmaid and my Mum.0

I had my make up trial at the weekend (along with hair, a little early but we decided now was the time in case I needed to grow out my layers, which I do).
The trial was £15 and then £25 on the day. I was originally going to do my own but I think I would probably stress too much and end up ruining it.
I'm not sure about the make she did though, it was completely different to what I would usually wear. I usually only wear concealer and a little mascara during the day, if I'm going out then I'll wear silver/grey shade of eyeshadow (sometimes more vibrant purples/greens etc if I'm wearing that colour), lots of mascara so my lashes stand out and some natural pinky/red lipstick.
The make up artist used foundation, blusher, brown eyeshadow, pencil eye liner under lower lashes and gel liner above the upper lashes. Don't get me wrong it looked lovely but it's just not me. I have 5 months to mull it over.
I did love the feeling of being able to sit back and relax though. I would advise a trial, then you can truely make your mind up.0 -
I had my trial at the weekend and it looked fantastic
Much more expensive than all of these prices though, I couldn't find anyone for anywhere near that round here!!Officially Mrs B as of March 2013
TTC since Apr 2015, baby B born March 20170 -
I am having my trial tomorrow night and am very excited!
I also wanted to keep costs down so I have booked into MAC in Selfridges. You pay £30 for the appointment but get that back on anything you buy.
My wedding is in the afternoon so am booked in for them to in the morning.0 -

When I had my make up trial she did it stage by stage and kept showing me, asking me what I thought etc so I could then tell her what I liked about what had done and what I didnt like. Ie, she didnt use any eyeliner- whereas I love my eyeliner (but knew I would have to be slightly more subtle that my usual going out eyeliner!!) so I asked her if she could put some on, which she did.
I did go away from my trial feeling slightly worried as for me it the opposite to how you felt, I didnt quite feel done up enough, but I went through everything on the wedding day (she is someone Ive known for years so knew she would do whatever I asked) and she took note, like I was really worried her bare minerals wouldnt cover up the darkness for under my eyes, explained this, to the rescue came my sister with her Benefit Bo ing which worked perfectly with everything else and I honestly felt amazing and was so glad I went through my worried with her as it gave her the chance to change what she had done on the trial.
PS Ill de lurk now!!:rotfl:0
