So now you want HMRC to just ignore submitted information, despite the fact there is absolutely no way to tell whether the incompetent accountant has submitted the information correctly or not?

It is entirely possible to have more than 1 employment with the same company.

It is entirely possible for a persons income to jump and then come back down, especially as HMRC don't know what the relationship between employee and employer is.

It is also well known for incompetent accountants like yourself and others on here and payroll staff , to fail in their obligations to issue P45's and P46's.

You need to look closer to home on this one.

Maybe you should check your records. This could very well have your incompetent fingerprints all over it.
[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

I'll put your answer down as "B: A world class tax collecting organisation" then.

Clearly my vote is for A. Anyone else care to cast a vote?

A small business owner gives his book-keeper orignal bank statements and a set of photocopied bank statements. The address and details are the same, and there is no evidence to suggest the business has somehow obtained a second account with the bank. Most of the expenses go through this account, most of the income for the business is Paypal online and transferred into a separate account.

The book-keeper keys in the two sets of statements, thus doubling the expenses of the business from £50k to £100k and converting a £30k profit into a £20k loss. HMRC come out to inspect. Does the inspector say:

A : Fair enough, easy mistake to make, the sort of thing we do all the time on PAYE.

B : You utter numptie I am going to throw the book at you on this one.

  • In Chrismac1's defence, I have read a lot of useful and informative advice given by him on this forum. A previous post had accused him of not knowing what he was doing, and of being an incompetent accountant. That seems rather unfair, and not backed up by any evidence as far as I am aware. Although Chrismac1's later comments were a little off-topic, he had in fact produced a pretty helpful answer to the OP's original question earlier this afternoon.

My point is that in the zany world of HMRC, it is all to common for folk like Izual to come to believe that somehow HMRC is actually doing the job properly.

When these folks come to me as clients it's like they've gone 12 rounds with Muhammed Ali. They've battered their heads against a brick wall.

It's important for them to realise that it is in fact the UK tax system, and the attitudes of people it employs, which is broken. And whoever takes their case on, keep focussing on specific details and not putting up with blanket "one size fits all, we've done nothing wrong it's the employer's fault Guv" replies which is the standard HMRC fobbing off tactic.
