Charity Shop Refund Rights ?!

Hello, My mum bought a tv for £35 from a charity shop last week. The tv was on display but only plugged into a dvd player in the shop so looked like it was playing fine. Got the tv home last week, hooked up to freeview box and there was a buzzing/humming noise as if it was old and the tube was going etc, tried various wiggling etc nothing worked.
We took it back and they said that it was probably our scart leads or cables and to take it home and try it again as it was working fine in the shop. We took it home again tried new scart leads same problem, played a dvd on it this morning and the screen was rolling.
Took it back today and they same woman was quite huffy and said it worked fine in the shop (only hooked up to the dvd player). She is now taking home to check it with her ariel and freeview box.
Long and short of it is that they say their policy is never to issue cash refunds for electrical goods but credit notes only. I dont want a £35 credit note for a charity shop ! Can i get them to give me a refund or if they say its working fine can i argue it and get a refund ? My disabled mother is getting really distressed by the arguing with the lady in the shop, can anyone advise please ?

You have exactly the same rights in a charity shop as you do in any other shop. Sales of Goods Act most definitely appliesOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

they also have to pat test 2nd hand items IIRC wonder if it had been done ? should be a sticker on the plug if it was done0

Unless they point out that fault specifically to you before you purchase it then, as halibut says, SOGA still applies. A shop's terms and conditions cannot override your statutory rights.Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0
