Sat Nav Advice re map updates

Thanks for all the replies.
I don't have a smart phone or tablet so can't use those options.
I'm normally quite happy navigating with paper maps/roads atlas when I'm a passenger, but will be driving alone and find on long journeys the map isn't always practical especially at complex junctions and unfamiliar areas.
Think I'll just look for a cheapish Tom Tom as I've used one a bit before.
Thanks all0 -
I have a 10.1" tablet with a car mount and it has satnav I haven't used it yet as its quite big but I set it up so it doesn't impede viewing the windscreen in any way but decided to still use my Garmin for now. You can get fairly cheap tablet for £150 or less plus you can obviously do other things or use a smartphone my OH has a Samsung note with decent satnav which she got for free and she has navfree
Both work without 3g and use gps
Navfree

Sygic is also a great product

I don't know if its been covered already but I use Nav Free on my 3GS and have used it on my android phone previously and found it very good ,you don't even need a data connection and its absolutely free to download0
