using office 2007 is a pain

hi all
got office 2007, been using word and it seems to be using predictive working
i put on an * and "word " puts in bulliet points had probelms putting a table in then populating the table with temperture degrees C
i was wondering if there is a way to stop this predictive or auto-help
every time they bring out a newer version they try to make it easy for the first time user but it makes it harder if u have a bit more experience

Not sure about 2007 but with my version [reasonably recent] Tools > Auto Correct Options gives me the ability to chose what it auto corrects.

Go to 'Tools' > 'Autocorrect'

and then select each of the different tabs and make the changes to what you require.
