New passport validity

My passport was due to expire 22 Sept 2013. I decided to renew early.
Just received the new on which expire 8 Oct 2023. That's 10years and 2 weeks + Anybody got an idea why? (I'm not complaining)

You can renew your passport at any time. Any unexpired validity up to 9 months will be added to your new passport.

Yes, but the OP appears to have been given an additional 16 days on top of his 10 years + remaining unexpired validity, otherwise the new passport would expire 22 Sept 2023 surely?

  • We were given an extra 4 months when we renewed ours, we did renew it fairly early though. Quite handy because it took us well out of the holiday season.

Well hardly a bargain, just wondering if it's common.

Yep, that's right. I expected 10 years from the expiry of my old one. Got 16 days longer than 10 yrs.

The only clue is that the renewal was actually carried out on 8th Feb and the expiry in Oct 2023 is also on 8th.

    Sorry sir.

  • As any unexpired validity of the old passport up to 9 months is added to the new passport does anybody have any suggestions as to why that has not happened in this case?
