Recommend a Car Starter (for flat battery)
Options
Hi,
I need a car starter as have call AA out many times all with flat batterys and with the cold months want to have a back up.
Seen them range from £35-£150 which is a huge difference. I wont be using it everyday. But will need something that can stick in the boot and charge it once a month to hold it charge.

Anyone got one that they can recommend?

As per epninety and the O/P's own thoughts i've a Clarke Jumpstart 4000 too.
Its a great job. Can start anything apparently up to a 5.5 litre diesel or something mad like that.
Very well made and very strong. I'm actually on my second as my first was stolen.
The only downside is the weight of it - its quite heavy but not by any means unmanageable. I think the next price point up - say £160+ will get you similar power but with lighter batteries.
All in all though, i'd strongly recommend the Clarke 4000.0 -
why not just buy a new battery? if yours fails in the cold months it past its prime , probably wont cost much more than the starter0

Thanks for feedback.
The both cars have new batteries but need a backup option always been thinking about getting one. But car broke down last week and if had one would have been very useful.0 -
Why not just fix the fault??? Surely its cheaper and less hassle to fix the fault than having to keep using a jump pack?
Get the battery and alternator checked properly.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
In your situation a decent 065 battery, a good pair of jump leads and one of those excellent ALDI/LIDL battery chargers (when on special)would be perfect. Don't go for a cheap booster box, they quickly drain their miniscule batteries and the built in compressor will break down just when you need it.0

If you buy the cheap jump packs which seem to be yellow, Then the battery in them wont last long.
I have the clarke unit from machine mart also and its over 6 years old and still works a treat. Battery still strong.
But you do have to keep them fully charged.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
