bird feed
has anyone any feedback on the countryside wild bird special seed mix, bought from the 99p store.? I have a lot of tits and finches and other small birds visit the peanut and ball feeder i had so i thought i'd get a seed feeder as well, (especially as peanuts are getting so expensive) but i think this mix contains a lot of grains which according to the rspb website are best for pigeons!!!! which is a bit annoying as the pictures on the package of birds it "could" attract are of all the small birds.

I find that these cheap mixes do contain lots of cheap grains.
The birds in my garden just used to chuck all the cheap stuff out & eat the expensive sunflower kernels !!
Then the pigeons all appear !!
I went onto feeding just sunflower kernels.....expensive though !!0 -
I've used 99p store seeds for years on the bird table and in feeders. The smaller birds eat what they want then the wood pigeons eat everything else.
I usually have robins, blue tits, long tail tits, wrens, greenfinch, coal tits, wag tails, siskins and an assortment of others, all seem happy with the seeds. I also have home made fat breads and 99p store peanuts too.0 -
As others have said its full of corn more than anything else, also a lot of cheap feeds contain pink and green bits , these are in fact sweepings off the floor crumbs of dog biscuits, which the birds dont like............
I normally buy a decent quality seed mix, and mix it with sun flower seeds, which attracts all the birds..........It goes alot further that way.......0 -
