I got a breadmaker off Freecycle after wanting one for ages...It was Morphy Richards one I think.
I use it twice, it was a behemouth and took up loads of space, the loaf was poxy and it cost me more for all the ingredients...I also didn't like the kneader bit stuck in the bread so I put it back on Freecycle...I'm afraid I'll have to buy shop bread now..

I love my bread maker, but i only ever make cobs (the dough mixes in the breadmaker and i split & cook in the oven)...they are gorgeous and worth making! I make them once a week and freeze them so they are really fresh when i make pack ups.

Am i the only who makes cobs?...they are absolutely gorgeous!

I make cobs but not with the breadmaker! I make my own dough shove it in the airing cupboard to rise and then in the oven.

You are right they are really nice. Especially the cheesy ones probably why hubbies middle is rising too lol

Cheesy ones? How do you make them? Sounds lovely.

Very easy about 5 mins before the end of the cooking just sprinkle some cheese on the top - it melts on and is really nice especially if you have ham rolls!

I'm not sure how all you lovely ladies are unable to cut HM bread thinly. I can cut it so thin, light shines through it... :D

OK, this is not because I'm stingy beyond redemption, but I don't have a breadmaker, my mum does. Since therefore I can't make it on demand, I make it last instead.

    The secret is a
    1. A proper knife - yes, I've seen women trying to cut bread with cooks knifes, paring knifes, vegetable knives...
    2. A lot of toing & froing with the knife, but virtually *no* downwards pressure...

It's easier to cut IMHO than store made stuff, because it's not mostly air.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Snaggles thanks for pointing out that it might be an age thing. I hadn't thought of that. Hmmm

Kippers, hadn't thought of doing cobs by just doing the dough setting. Good thought.

ZTD I agree about knives. I would guess that some of us have knife blocks in their kitchens. Mine has a supposed bread knife in it, with a serrated edge (ie loads of little teeth). Is it really surprising then that it tears the bread to pieces? So know I use a proper meat knife. With know serated edge to it, and I can cut my slices of my bread maker loaf about 0.5cm and nice and even too.
