Spending money suggestions for 1 week in Majorca (Cala D'or)

Options
Hello,

I have just booked a weeks stay, b&b in Cala D'or for myself and my 4yr old. Would be grateful for any ideas when it comes to spending money etc?

My son is not a fussy eater so we are ok when it comes to eating out-I do however prefer eating local food or tapas as oppossed to eating at "The red lion" and so forth!

We only have 20kg baggage allowance as I am afraid I may of struggled with two cases, a 4 yr old and a trunki, so I am not really wanting to take my own food away to save money.

I am wanting to go on a few excursions, boat trips etc, and spend time at the beach/near the pool so will need to plan spends for those trips out. I plan to 'enjoy' the mini disco with my son and then once he is in bed enjoy a book and a couple of glasses of wine on the balcony as I am not a huge drinker.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help in my planning/saving!!

it was around 6-7 year ago i was last in majorca, i stayed palma nova so cant really advise.
i would check out what excursions are available that you are interested in doing and price them up.

  • I was last in Cala d'Or about two years ago. The Brit places along the coast were far from cheap - €4 for a pasty or a toastie - sad really when if you went two/three blocks back you would find locals eating a very good quality menu del dia (including water and wine/soft drink) for about €7. Three guesses where I ate and how surprised I was that other Brits didn't!

Yes I tend to avoid those places too! Yuk! I dont really like cheap pasties at home-I cant see the appeal in them overseas!! My son is not a chicken nugget and chip person either (thankfully)! I shall keep my eye out for back street local (ish) places. Thank you!
  • Reading this has made me rrealise how long ago it was that I was in Cala D'Or ..... 20 years, so thank for making me feel old !

All I can say is that when I was there, you really had to search out value places if you were self catering, as the majority of the places (particularly in the Marina area) were very costly ..... That is the first place I ever saw a menu outside the restaurant with no prices at all - If you have to ask the price, you can't afford to eat there was the explanation I got !

I will say though that it is a lovely place with nice sandy coves, so your little one should be safe - enjoy !
  • Hi there.

Cala D'Or is quite a big place. We stayed just down the road in Cala Egos (although the holiday was sold as Cala D'Or) a couple of years ago in May.

We were a party of 5 including 3 kids (all under 3 at the time) and there was a small strip of restaurants (not many bars) but we were forking out €60-70 for a main meal and although some were nice, some weren't much better than pub grub here which would cost nearer €40-45.

In the end, we got half board in our hotel for €60 a day as the kids ate free and the food was quite good. Lots of choice and of course the chips, nuggets stuff for kids as well (one of mine prefers salad anyway - honestly).

Cala D'or itself was quite nice to be honest and maybe prices are more competitive in the main season. Agree about the marina though, lovely but £££ or should I say €€€€ :)

Thanks for that. I actually prefer eating out- I used to work in a 5* all inc hotel in tenerife and I would prefer to be out and about eating rather than in the hotel. My son hates "kids" food eg nuggets and chips too so really wouldnt benefit him-but thanks! I think I shall pay for our excursions prior to going and then use money for the expensive eating out
