  • That makes no sense - we already have had postings on here saying their credit card has been charged. Do they mean "at Oyster rates".
As an out of town pensioner my Oyster card has been told my status and supposedly charges me lower rates for some journeys. I am confident the my Barclaycard does not know this information.
  • This is the info for the barclaycard

It appears with that one you can actually load onto it like an Oyster rather than have it just deduct from your bank.

    Confused ?? I am

It sounds as if you have loaded your Senior Railcard onto your Oyster Card. You will benefit form lower single fares and a lower daily price cap. The railcard tab on this page has details:
    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14416.aspx

You will need to reload that at an Oyster-equipped ticket office if you renew your railcard as the entitlement automatically drops off when it expires.

Contactless cards e.g. your Barlcaycard* can only be used to pay the £1.40 flat rate on buses (at the moment). No daily price cap will be applied.

*as long as it is not a Barlcaycard OnePulse (see below)

It is important to distinguish this as the Barclaycard OnePulse, which is a Contactless credit card and Oyster card in one. This is where the problems start. The system has been programmed (on buses) just to accept the Oyster part (as described by goodfera above) and ignore the contactless bit so users don't get charged twice.

  • Received a contactless Debit card and asked for it to be replaced with non contactless. I dont usually carry hundreds of pounds worth of cash in my wallet in case it is stolen or lost. Contactless cards are a dream for pickpockets who can spend hundreds of pounds with them before the owner reports them as stolen. YOU are responsible for the loss until then.

We are living now in a world of compatible technology, but I cannot have an Oyster card in the same wallet as a contactless debit card because nobody, including Transport for London, can predict what will happen.

Get with it and sort the technology out.

    Wrong, utterly wrong...
  • Used a Barclaycard in contactless mode for real in a pub recently for an amount of about £15.

Sp that would have been seven swipes to get over £100 ?

Arrowtan, as has been said, you are mistaken.

Here is what Barclaycard say on this:
If my Barclaycard is lost or stolen, can the person that finds it use it for contactless payments?

Your security is our top priority so we use some of the most advanced technology to protect your contactless payments. If your card is lost or stolen you're 100% protected against fraudulent activity on your account.
    From: http://help.barclaycard.co.uk/brochure/contactless_payments/contactless-lost-or-stolen

Also worth noting that the maximum per 'tap' is £20... not likely to interest many thieves.
