Help! Where's my TV picture gone??!!

Hi all - thanks in advance to anyone who can help :)

I switched my TV on as normal this morning, all was fine. Then, prob 10 mins later, the picture has vanished! There is no visual output at all, no picture, no icons when you switch it on (it usually says "DTV" and the channel number when first switched on). No idea what has happened, if I've accidentally pressed something?

All audio is working as normal on all the channels, it is just the picture that has vanished!

Anyone got any ideas? Want to make sure i'm not being thick before I call in any repair people!!

Thanks so much guys x

If your TV only goes to standby when switched off, then unplug it from the mains, and leave for 5 minutes, then try again.

Are all the leads into the TV inserted properly? This can happen when SCART leads come out slightly. Check every connection behind the TV and make sure it's in correctly.
  • Thanks all, have tried all of this, nothing is working... i think I may have a bust tv on my hands! The sound is perfect tho, it is just the visual element.

I am guessing that you have built in freeview as you said the channel shows as DTV ?. So the only connection you would have is an aerial connection for it. What make and model TV do you have ?
  • Hi there, yep, the only connection I have is an aerial. It is a portable aerial but I have used this fine for many years. It's a Toshiba LCD Tv. a few years old (certainly not one of the new, new ones).

Do you have sky or any device like dvd player to plug to see if screen is ok. If so, may be easier to just buy a set top box than hefty repair bill

I also have a Toshiba and I have pressed every single button on mine and I cant replicate the issue you are having. I would pull the power out at the mains socket and leave it for a minute and then plug it back in.

  • thanks all, it's having none of it! Oh well, I guess it will go to the TV land in the sky! Thanks all.
