Overdraft protection charges from Barclays

I have paid a small charge to Barclays every month for the last 10 years at least. This is described as overdraft protection because I am allowed to overdraw on my account to a limited amount. I don't need this, and never have because I don't ever overdraw on my account. I always viewed it as an standard feature of my current account and have only just realised that it might be classed as PPI. Should I try and reclaim it? It is unlikely to amount to a lot of money as it's only a small charge so I'm not sure it is worth the aggro. Has anyone else had experience of this?

  • i'm in the middle of exactly the same sort of claim with Barclays at the moment; forms completed and submitted, just sent off some additional information in response to follow-up requests about savings and sick pay cover at work which was in place at the time

my claim dates from 1998 to date - will keep you posted as to progress !
  • Hi,

I had the same with Barclays on two accounts, thought I had to have it to get a overdraught! I put a claim in for the first account, got rejected asked them to reconsider and got over £1000 back. Then put a claim in for second account got over £300 back.

    Go for it...:j

I've also got this problem. How do I go about claiming this back?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Robert, Ch3W, I suggest trying customer service helpline and ask for PPI claim form to be sent out. The form is quite simple, I have just successfully claimed from Barclays for exactly the same thing. I didn't know I was paying PPI for small overdraft until a Barclays callcentre worker alerted me to it. He actually started off the claim, result was that money was refunded to me about 11 days later.

Thanetgirl, it's worth the hassle. I'd had the account about 15 years and didn't think I'd get much for the small monthly charge but I got £1,875!
