Hi everyone,
Bit of strange one, but my partner and i have just separated after 13 years together. We have stayed in touch, in fact he's genuinely my best friend and i can only hope we may work things out in the future.
I was planning on getting him a nice watch for his 50th, but i'm not sure that is appropriate now, what do others think? Could anyone suggest another present which would be something to keep, rather than an experience day etc? I could buy him clothes, but i really want an item for him to keep forever for his 50th.
Thanks for any advice.

If he feels the same about you, I would go ahead with the watch.0 -
Not sure where I read this or heard it but traditionally a watch is regarded as a parting gift (probably to do with the number of carriage clocks etc given as wedding presents)Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0

My ex(husband) and I had split up quite some time before his 50th, but were married for 16 years and are still on good terms. I realised that I had most of the photographs of both our lives and families from the years we were together, which in many cases were at least equally relevant to him, so I copied the best ones (on the scanner/printers in Boots) and put an album together. He was really pleased.
I also made him a hamper of homemade goodies, which he enjoyed, though it isn't something to keep.Life is mainly froth and bubble

Thanks, that would be a lovely idea, but i have only just made so many albums for him when we were dividing our photos up - wish i had waited!
Hamper would be a nice addition though to anything else i can find to keep as he loves food.0 -

That was a very kind and civilised thing to do in the process of a break-up.:) Hope you find something you're pleased with as a present. The watch sounds a nice idea anyway, so that may be the way to go.Life is mainly froth and bubble

Thanks, i'm leaning towards still getting the watch. I know the one he likes, he's wanted it for ages but never spends much money on himself, so will be a nice gesture at least.0 -
Thanks for all replies, i have decided to go ahead with the watch. I know he likes Rotary, do you have any preferences on these two, please? The price difference doesn't matter, i'm just trying to work out which one is the nicest for a special occasion.

I agree the thought is lovely. As to the choice I prefer the 2nd.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0
