EDF Online V3 DD Tariff

As prices are coming down across energy suppliers I thought it was a good idea to compare the tariff I was on using the comparison sites (eg energy helpline etc). The online or telephone services are unable to compare tariffs because EDF are unwilling to provide the Online V3 DIRECT DEBIT Tariff to all comparison sites. I have approached EDF on this and they just say that 'their v3 tariff is the most competitive of their tariffs' but I am struggling to prove that this is the case - as they appear not to publish all their tariffs. Has the V3 tariff been reduced recently for gas and electric and is it still competitive in the current market?

Lots of posts on this if you do a search.
v3 is cheaper than anything available to new/changing customers and hasn't been reduced.0 -
Hi Taffyjones,
As Cardew says V3 has not been reduced. EDF have only reduced their standard tariff for gas and have not reduced any of their V online tariffs. These tariffs were not hiked up in the same way many others were so it stands to reason they are not going to come down in the same way either.
If you want to use the comparison sites simply get your V3 tariff prices for gas and electricity then use one of the comparison sites to find out what the cheapest tariffs available in your area are now. Just pick any tariff as the one you're on and disregard the savings the sites tell you that you can make and compare the unit prices of the best available tariffs with those of your current V3 tariff. Remember to also take into account any DD or dual fuel discounts the companies may be offering as well.
Link Cardew says though I think you will find V3 is still the best for you.

EDF Online Direct Debit deal is the cheapest you can get, no point switching.
You can check the cost per KWH from your online bill, I am with EDF and checked this online, I don't know why EDF are not publishing all their tarrifs as they would gain more customers if they did.0 -
Dear taffyjones
I don't know why EDF are not publishing all their tarrifs as they would gain more customers if they did.
None of the cheaper Online tariffs are available to new customers any more so publishing them would not gain any new customers. Only Online v5 is available and it's dearer.
However it might let them keep customers as some people have switched away without realising that they already have a very cheap tariff.0 -

Hi Jem,
I was just about to post exactly the same thing

I've just rung EDF, following my latest Clickenergy bill from BG, (end of 1st year, and they suggest a monthly increase from £90 to £133!) and have been told of a new promotion -
Pricesaver 2008 - with elec rates of
first 250 (BG 250) units (qtr) 16.96p (BG 17.007),
remainder of day units at 8.24 (BG 10.279),
and economy 7 at 2.67 (BG 2.198), plus VAT.
We have no gas - rural location! These rates are (overall) much better than clickenergy, npower and scottish power, but don't seem to appear either on any price comparison site, or on the EDF site.
Last years usage - 10803 night, 8851 day.
Seems like a good deal to me. Prices held until 09/08. I think I may be switching very soon....unless anyone has any other ideas!0 -
Have been on V3 now for over a year. October 2006 without telling me they changed me to East Midlands DD tariff, I complained and they said "Oh sorry "and changed me back to V3. This October 2007 after I submitted my gas readings they billed me on the East Midland DD tariff which had an increase of some 24% over the V3 when I complained they said that East Midland DD tariff was now the same as V3 which was being replaced. I challenged this to a manager and he more or less said 'tough'. I complained to EnergyWatch and whilst they lend a sympathetic ear they really have no teeth. Has anyone else had a similar experience.0

Welcome to the forum.
For some reason EDF never got around to bringing the Online V3 tariff in line with the other versions of their on-line tariffs - possibly because that tariff was 'inherited' from other companies - and it had excellent prices for a long time; given it wasn't a fixed/capped tariff, it seemed to be something of an anomaly.
Isn't this just a case of the Online V3 tariff simply finishing? Which is a commercial decision?
I would think you have grounds for complaint if there has been no notification to you, or in the press, that your tariff was finishing; to enable you to move to another tariff or another company.
Was that your complaint to Energywatch?0 -
Thanks Cardew
I think the V3 tariff is still current - whilst they changed me on the gas my electricity is still Online V3 DD. No one from EDF ever contacted me to advise that they were changing my tariff and to expect an increase.0
