Advice needed regarding non receipt of item returned to online seller

Hi all, just looking for a bit of advice or guidance on the off chance that someone else has experienced a similar situation to this.
About 4 weeks ago I purchased a 64GB USB memory stick from an online retailer. When the item was received it fell apart as I took it out of the packaging so, being concerned at the quality, I immediately checked that the size of the stick was as expected. When I ran some tests it was apparent that the stick was counterfeit and was in fact an 8GB stick hacked to appear as 64GB.
I contacted the company who sold the product and forceably expressed my anger so much so that the Managing Director emailed me. He arranged for a freepost envelope to be sent to me so that I could return the product and they could run their own checks before dealing with the product return.
I sent the product back 2 weeks ago and the company are stating that it hasn't been received so are not processing the return. I am just wondering what are my rights here? At the moment I am without my money or the product and with apparently no way in which I can now proceed. To be honest, I am not really concerned at the loss of the funds or the product as it wasn't expensive but what is really irritating me is that this company is selling fake products and I suspect that many other people are in receipt of a counterfeits. It is really now the principle for me so i want to push this as far as I legally can.
Has anyone got any advice they can share? Thanks

Did you return it via a tracked method or just in an envelope with stamps on ? If not the former, then you've got no stick and no proof of delivery. I doubt trading standards would now be interested as there's no proof either way.
It was a Freepost return envelope supplied by the company themselves so it wasn't tracked unfortunately.0 -
Sounds dodgy to me, they could have knowingly sold you a counterfeit memory stick and now say it's lost.
What company was it?0 -

As long as trading standards aren't over worked (which they may be with local government cut backs), then I should think that they will just buy a memory stick from the seller to see if this is a regular thing.
Can the OP please name and shame the seller, so that nobody else makes the same mistake?0 -
Make sure you tell trading standards in the sellers local area, if others have also reported issues they are the ones in a position to do something about it.0
