Home protect taking money out of my account without authorisation

I've had a nasty shock
Home Protect insurance are my old insurance company. My policy with them lapses this evening and I have bought insurance else where as I no longer want insurance with business cover - my wife runs a dress making business from the house but she has wound this up due to the impending birth of our second child.
Any way I have logged on to my bank account to find that they have put a charge on my credit card for £403.49. Before I phone my credit card company and instruct them not to pay is there any advice anyone can give me?

Check your renewal and policy documents, which will probably say they will automatically renew the policy if you do not contact them.
If it does say this, I would suggest calling them and politely acknowledge that you didn't realise the policy would automatically renew, you've purchased insurance elsewhere and could they please cancel the new policy and refund you.0 -
I have no renewal documents and the policy that I have from them sent last year says nothing of renewal0

Have you taken policy documents online at all? What exactly does it say under the 'Terms of Cancellation'?I work for a leading insurance company as an Insurance Advisor dealing with Commercial Insurance. Feel free to ask me any questions but please do not take what I say as correct advice at all times, as every insurance company works differently to others.0

Then they have been lost in the post as insurers dont not offer renewal or write to advise that they wont be offering renewal.
So as others have said, they will have sent you a letter advising of the renewal premium and saying it will automatically renew unless you tell them otherwise.
Time to contact them, advise you never received the docs and say you have bought elsewhere and then hope they dont apply cancellation fees0
