I had a full on argument with a manager at a local Tesco over their Half Price reductions and Double The Difference policy.
My Daughter had picked up a hairband she liked that was originally priced at £1.75 and had a Half Price sticker on. There are more than ten on the rack, all had same stickers on.
It went through at full price so went to Customer Service where the assistant argued that it was right to through at full price as there was no way something with an odd-numbered price could be reduced by half. I told him there were a lot of them on the rack all stickers the same to which he muttered "We'll see about that shall we!" and made me show him when they were. Just as the assistant was saying again that there must be an error and repeating his same comments about odd-numbered prices, a manage passed.
He stopped to ask what the problem was and the assistant told him I was demanding he honoured a price reduction that was blatantly impossible. The manager agreed with the assistant until I told him he would need to do a full refund then and I would buy from another store. He then agreed to do the price reduction but all the way back to he till was arguing that he was not willing to honour the Double The Difference as it should be good enough that he was agreeing to an "unreasonable price reduction"
Unluckily for him, Area Management were in the store and had caught part of the conversation. The Area Manager apologised for the way the store staff had handled it and gave me the Double The Difference and a giftcard for £5 to match the rest of the money I had spent.

My local branch would always dispute the double the difference offer on the basis that it wasn't their fault if the cashier made a mistake, or prices hadn't been updated on the computer.
Store management would instruct them to make the payment, but the customer service staff would practically snarl whilst doing it.
Fortunately that store has closed and been replaced by a large Tesco Extra. Unsurprisingly, few of the customer service staff from the old staff are allowed near the customer service desk in the new branch.0 -
Easiest way around this is to complain to the scottish Head office, always overrule them. Some of the managers and staff carry on like they are refunding you out of their own pockets.
I remember the time I walked out with twin microswaves for free and a playstation on the old price difference policy, their faces. That didnt include my weekly free meat0
