Connecting a wifi printer to laptop?

Have just bought an Epson Wifi printer and have very tried connecting it to my laptop... very unsucessfully, all afternoon. Followed all instructions, then it said press the wifi button for 3 seconds, 2 lights (1 green, 1 orange) flash alternately then after about 2 mins there is just an orange one flashing which is a timeout for connection. At this point my internet connection is lost. There is a progress bar going across the screen but it doesn't appear to do anything. I was expecting the light to go to green and the "next" button to reappear and then I could continue with the set up process. Any sugggestion, in nice plain English please, as to do you think it could be a wrong setting on my laptop or a fault with the printer, in which it will be going back? Thanks guys

The ISP I have said the dongle wasn't capable so maybe check if yours is.
  • Don't know if that would effect me as we run from a wireless router but thanks, worth bearing in mind.

  • Whatever security you have between your router and your laptop, you need the same security to the printer. The method you describe with pushing a button sounds like WiFi Protected Setup, which your router and/or laptop may not support. If you have a password on your wireless which you typed into your router and/or laptop, you need to find how to enter it into your printer.
  • Yes I did read that I would need a password during the process and also an SSID (I think) but it didn't ask for anything like that and the instructions didn't help much either all it said was to press the wifi button for three seconds and then what would happen after that, not helpful at all!!!!
