So,
Switched to E.On last autumn (from Southern Electric).
Received bill last month which showed meter reading had not changed since September.
Phoned E.On.
New meter will be fitted at end of February.
Question: How will they work out how much we owe?

Has the meter stopped, or have they just read it wrong?
For 4 months they may just let it slide, or estimate it from your past consumption. If you've still got your old Southern Elec bills from the same period last year that would be helpful in case they over-estimate.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
They will either estimate on past weeks plus some for winter or will read the meter a few times close together and then estimate it. It's your job to argue about it and suggest that their estimate is too high.0

thats very honest of you to volunteer the meter stopped, I have found meters stopped for absolutely years and the suppliers are daft enough not to take any notice. An npower one I spotted last year, was on its 5 th year, even tho meter readers had been out many times to verify reads but too thick to spot the wheel not going around when electric on in the house0

Hi oxfordrocks
We've a specialist stopped meter team who deal with this type of situation.
They look at each case individually. They'll arrange for the meter to be replaced and re-bill the account back to when we believe the meter stopped.
To do this, we'll go back to the last known correct reading and then estimate usage from there.
These estimates are generally based on usage going forward. Seasonal variations are also taken into consideration.
We'll also update industry data by sending electronic messages to the meter operators and meter readers.
As t0rt0ise says, please let us know if you feel our estimate isn't right.
Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

New meter fitted today, only took 10 mins.
Strange seeing single digits only on meter.
Hope E.ON sort out the billing to my satisfaction. The best thing you can do at work is join a Trade Union.
