Cool just NatWest said the details do not exist, but as postcode says it does as you have correctly identified. :D

    I guess it'll be one of life's mysteries :D

It's not really a mystery. You entered it on a Natwest system, which has the ability to check if the account actually exists, which in this case it didn't. Postcode can only do the modulus check to see if the account number is valid, which it is. Had you kept the sortcode correct but (for instance) changed the last digit of the account number both systems would have reported an error.

Yeah that's totally understandable I was not trying to achieve the example you are mentioning.

I was just experimenting if the website would pick up the sortcode did not match the account number and it did not in this instance.

However I do totally understand your comments.

I read this this morning at work. I have to say it is one of THE WEIRDEST things I've ever read.... Who on earth goes out to work for 2 years and doesn't notice that they haven't received or spent £1 of their wages for the whole 2 year period?

I can understand why she's been having to scrimp and save, they think they're living on £45k and in reality they have £30k coming in.... As someone who checks their banking 3/4 times a week, I understand I probably am not typical, however, I don't think I've met anyone that wouldn't miss £1000 out their account EVERY month. So odd.

That is crazy that someone didn't notice £1k a month going missing - almost unbelievable! Also the suggestion that online statements are to blame! I am pretty much completely paperless and keep a much closer eye on things than I ever have as I don't need to refer to bits of paper!

I don't have any sympathy for her but pretty appalled at the lucky recipient who has obviously kept their mouth shut for 2 years (well if you believe the 'story' I guess)

I think I'd be very, very tempted to spend the first £1000 but if it kept happening I would tell my bank (I hope I would anyway :D).

The person who got the money may well have told the bank.
They could have in turn, been told, the bank could do nothing until the money was claimed back by the sender.
If nobody claimed it back and it kept happening, I expect anyone would transfer the money out of that account.

But back to the woman, I would notice if my account was £100 short let alone £1000 a month. She may well have not checked statements, but she said she got slips from the ATM. They give you a balance.

And why didn't she just get her wages paid into the joint account.

    Very fishy.
  • The whole article doesn't make sense, I don't believe two people could miss that much money every month for two years. If she runs her own business she must have some financial savviness.

It reads more like a Daily Fail article, with as little veracity.
